Sometimes I just sit in front of the Cintiq and open up Sketchbook Pro because when you do, your entire screen is this glaring field of white, and something about that makes me want to just start scrawling over it to change the scenery. It’s what I usually open up before taking more polished plans into Manga Studio or Photoshop. What I usually end up with is stuff that I don’t necessarily want to draw but just seeps out, like garbage from tiny holes poked into an overloaded hefty bag.
I can usually tell when it’s time to stop because I find myself laboring over something, and it’s like some giant hunk of trash has plugged up the hole.
Shortly after I did that Lil’ Fuckup comic. Maybe that little guy on the lower left is a proto-fuckup.
From the same sketchbook, this page is typical of the really fussy stuff I was doing in high school, lots of costume design and DEADLY WEAPONS. I blanked out some of the text here so that nobody is able to extrapolate some of the more technical stuff to create these things in real life.
Some of these pages look more like fashion design than anything, but space people have to look good while doing space things, I figure.
Was going through some old sketchbooks and got caught up looking at all the tiny doodles in the corners like these guys here. Each of these drawings would fit under the pad of your thumb. Some of my favorite stuff in sketchbooks is comprised of the tiniest, quickest little bits that fall out of your head like crumbs from the big donut of imagination you’re gnawing on.
